Music Matches Vol. 2

Grant

1) Gaslight, WILLOW (feat. Travis Barker)

This first one up is an instant flashback to 2000’s Avril Lavigne alternative rock vibe. With Travis Barker on the drums (of course) he shows off what he does best. The once “Whip My Hair” girl we know from 2010 is now bringing back one of the most iconic sounds I love to 2021 and she is the only one right now who can do that really well.

2) DIM MY LIGHT, Problem (feat. Snoop Dogg)

DIM MY LIGHT new release is honestly a gem, I am really glad I found this one. I will come clean and say I am a huge Snoop Dogg fan so I basically love anything that he’s on. Problem did a great job with this one and the beats are reminiscent of something I would listen to sitting by the pool on a sunny summer day, so yes, I love it.

3) fue major Kali Uchis, (feat SZA)

We can now say Kali Uchis and SZA are two forces that need to get together more often. This track was originally on Kali’s album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, but just recently this remix dropped and I have had it on repeat for while now. It’s angelic, bringing a sort of sense of peace in its best form. Also noted, this song charted 15 for 2 weeks straight on Billboard’s Latin Digital Downloads chart.

4) Pressure, Martin Garrix (feat. Tove Lo)

One of the most underrated pop artists right now has to be Tove Lo, and her with Martin Garrix on beats really just made this song what it is. With mainly house influences and some fun twists too, this duo delivered a standout performance. I would love to know when we’re getting more music from her, as she hasn’t charted as high as she used to under her original breakout song, “Habits (Stay High).”

5) Coming Back, James Blake (feat. SZA)

I just recently discovered this one, and to be very honest I am not a James Blake fan (I think he sounds like Sam Smith idk). When I saw SZA was on the track as well, I gave it a listen and I’m really glad I did. It describes “the aftermath of a lover’s attempt to depart from a past relationship. Regret and humility fill Blake’s voice as he comes to the realization that what he was running away from is actually what he needs. Despite this, SZA plays the woman in question as she uses her verse to reveal the concern she has with a second try at love.” (UPROXX)
