It’s true, I have an unhealthy obsession with tracking every new music drop on Fridays. Lucky for you though, that means I have a *decent* taste in music that I can share with you. In this series, I want to be able to showcase some of my favorite songs from any and every genre so that everyone can find a new song that they can get behind. Now let's get into it!
1) Have Mercy, Chloe
This absolute banger was leaked on TikTok about 2 months prior to its drop, and it became an overnight trend. Chloe from Chloe x Halle is finally branching out into solo music, and she’s killing it like never before. Her intense vocals and choreography at her first-ever VMA’s performance of this track went viral on Twitter and this song continues to rise on the charts week after week.
2) Way 2 Sexy, Drake, Future, and Young Thug
Okay, so this one is a little more of a personal guilty pleasure of mine but I could not pass this one up. The drop of CLB (Certified Lover Boy, Drake’s newest album) led to massive streaming, with this song being one of the number one songs on the album. Somebody recently tweeted that “Way 2 Sexy is simply a City Girls song but for guys” and I could NOT agree more. Boys, if we see you in the club bobbing your head to this one, I understand.
3) Good Ones, Charli XCX
If you’re looking for the perfect pop anthem, go ahead and listen to this one. Charli XCX continues to be an experimental goddess for electronic and pop music and this one hit the nail on the head for me. With reminiscent synth chords and overly catchy bars, you’ll have this song in your ear for the next week.
4) Pressure, Ari Lennox
Ari Lennox is officially back and I couldn’t be happier. Her newest song, “Pressure” brings back timeless R&B and it fits her voice perfectly. The beats are a little old school while the vocals are so twenty-first century, which describes Lennox’s style to the T. Ari’s voice is quite literally smooth like butter and she always knows how to drop an R&B masterpiece.
5) Billie Bossa Nova, Billie Eilish
Billie Eilish’s newest drop, “Happier Than Ever,” has proven to be a worldwide success. Out of every song on the album, my personal favorite has to be Billie Bossa Nova. With seductive bars and light instrumentals, I can almost envision the story she sings in the song. It’s one of the very few openly sexual songs Eilish has released, making it one of her standout records on the album. Although her album is “Happier Than Ever,” I promise you she isn’t. Prepare yourself for some sad songs, because that’s what she does best.
