New York fashion week is such an iconic part of fashion and style trends everywhere in the world. If you’re lucky enough to go to University in New York, you probably had on your best looks this month in its honor. But for the rest of you who feel like you are missing out, this post is for you. We are going over some of the best New York fashion week runway trends that you need to try and some ways to make it happen. This one is all about bringing some NYFW to you, wherever you are in the world because expressing your fashion sense shouldn’t have to stop when school starts.

The first trend that we noticed from 2021 NYFW was lots of sheer outfits. At first thought, wearing something sheer probably sounds very risky but hear me out! Sheer pieces are amazing for styling because they are so versatile. For those of you who don’t love the idea of showing a lot of skin, try layering a cami or a bralette under. Not only does this cover you up, but it also adds layers which takes your outfit up another notch. Another plus about sheer is that it does not have to mean “see-through”. Abstract art sheer dresses are so fun and popular at the moment. A colorful sheer top with a simple pair of jeans is an extremely super easy way to make your outfit look expensive and put together. This fall, don't be scared of sheer and try some of these looks out.

Another trend that presented itself many times during NYFW was an extension of a summer trend that we’ve seen before. 2 piece sets and styling bras as tops was everywhere on this year's runways. From maxi skirts to flared pants, small tops seem to go perfect with anything. To recreate this look, you probably already have some pieces from your summer wardrobe that will work. Pull out those crop tops and those camis and find a matching pair of pants. Usually, wide leg or straight leg pants are the most flattering and
currently very much in style, but find what works best for you and your body type. To make this fall appropriate, layer with a cute cami or an oversized jacket for a more casual look. However you choose to pair it, a color coordinated outfit makes you look like you’ve got it together even when school makes you feel like you don’t.
The last trend I am loving is one that may be a bit controversial to some. Y2K! Either you love it or you hate it. Personally, I think it is the most exciting and interesting comeback in fashion this year. If you are not familiar with the term, the Y2K trend is a modernized representation

of the late 90’s and early 2000’s fashion. This means lots of low rise pants, flares, bandana tops, and most shocking: pants over dresses. All of these and more were the inspiration for many looks this year in NYFW. If you feel like having a throwback moment and trying it out yourself, it is so easy to find Y2K inspired pieces online as it has become a very popular aesthetic. There are also many different sub-categories under Y2K. If you’re more interested in the bratz doll type, shop around for some bootcut or flared jeans and pants. A matching juicy couture type of tracksuit is a comfy yet stylish combination. If you want a more edgy “2000s rocker girl” vibe, you need to find some short denim skirts and chunky black boots. Baggy jeans, patchwork tops, big hoodies, and lacy cami’s are all perfect for this look. This trend is bound to be a trip through memory lane for most of you.
Now that most of us are back on campus after a year, make the most out of lost time and show off your fashion skills. When you feel confident walking down the halls in a bomb outfit, college will feel like less of a burden and more like your own personal runway.
